Jerome Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India |
Jerome Bonnafont has been the Ambassador of France to India since 2007. Before he represented France in India, he held the high profile and sensitive portfolio of the spokesperson of the French President for three years, from 2004.
Born in 1961, Mr Bonnafont graduated from the Institute of Political studies in 1986.
His close ties with India go back to 1986, when he began his chequered diplomatic career as second secretary and then as first secretary at the French Embassy in India till 1989.
Mr Bonnafont moved briefly to a stint in Paris in 1989 for two years in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Then began his journey as the representative of France to the Middle East and New York.He was Counsellor in the French Embassy in Kuwait from 1991 to 93’ and then Counsellor in the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations, based at New York till 1995.
Since 1995, Mr Bonnafont has held critical diplomatic portfolios in Paris, the centre of power in the French government.
In 1995, as Mission in charge to the Director at the Foreign Affairs Ministry for a year and then as Head of the International Division in the Environment Ministry for a year.
His stint at the President’s office began in 1997 as technical advisor, diplomatic affairs, a post he held for seven long years. His fluency in both French and English help him to handle his positions in Paris and abroad, with equal ease. |
